When To Apply

The marriage license is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance.

The registrar will need at least three days to process the  application.

Where To Apply

Application is always made at the municipal office in the bride's town, if she lives in New Jersey. If the bride doesn't live in New Jersey, you apply at the municipal office of the groom's town. If  the bride and groom are both from out of state, you must apply at the municipal office of the town where the ceremony will take place.

The fee for a marriage license varies and must be paid at the time of application. Be sure to bring cash.

What You Need To Bring With You

Call beforehand to see what documentation you will need to present at the time of application. Some towns do not require identification. However, some towns may  ask to see a birth certificate or passport and proof of residency, such as a driver's license, lease, or tax return. If married previously, you will need to present a copy of the final divorce decree or death certificate.

Who Can Perform The Ceremony?

Judges, mayors, and any minister of every religion are authorized to solemnize a marriage.

Filing The License

Five days after the wedding, the person who performs the ceremony should file the license with the registrar in the municipality where the marriage took place.

Blood Test

Pre-marital blood tests are no longer necessary in New Jersey.

Congratulations in advance and may you spend man, many happy years together.
